From booking to payout: How CheckYeti scaled their platform with Mangopay’s wallets
CheckYeti scaled its platform with Mangopay’s wallet infrastructure, enabling seamless payments, flexible fee management, and timely payouts. Let’s dive into their story.

Established in 2014, CheckYeti has quickly grown into a key player in the European leisure activity market, helping holidaymakers and outdoor enthusiasts connect with trusted providers to find their perfect experiences. By offering a diverse selection of activities, from skiing and snowboarding to paragliding and diving, CheckYeti is now the leading European marketplace for booking nature & outdoor experiences in more than 1,500 mountain and beach destinations across 25 countries.
The growth journey with Mangopay
CheckYeti's rapid growth in the adventure booking sector highlighted the need for a payment solution that could keep up with the rising demand for bookings while maintaining an exceptional user experience. They chose Mangopay, the only provider offering an infrastructure specifically built for platforms and marketplaces, making it the right fit for CheckYeti’s scaling business model. One year after entering the market, CheckYeti turned to Mangopay to make their payment processes more efficient and add a wider variety of payment options.
CheckYeti was looking for a payment solution that would allow them to build the required financial infrastructure for their platform, a system that would enable secure transactions for users across various geographic regions as diverse as Germany, Albania, and Morocco, while also ensuring validation and payouts for their partners throughout Europe and the Mediterranean Sea.
Simplifying payments with wallets
As the platform scaled and transaction volumes grew, CheckYeti implemented Mangopay’s wallet infrastructure, a system that gives both customers and providers a platform wallet to handle transactions in a secure and transparent way. Here's how it works:
When a customer books an activity, the payment is first received into the buyer’s wallet. From there, a small booking fee is automatically routed to CheckYeti.
The amount is transferred to the provider’s wallet upon activity completed, along with any applicable service fees sent to CheckYeti’s wallet.
Finally, the provider can withdraw their earnings to their bank account based on the payout cycle set by the platform.
This wallet-based setup ensures that money is tracked and distributed at every step, with the flexibility to handle customized fee structures.
Another wallet-driven experience: gift vouchers
Beyond bookings, CheckYeti has also been offering a gift voucher wallet system for almost eight years, making it simple for their users to share the joy of adventure with friends and family.
Users can purchase gift vouchers, which are stored in a dedicated wallet for this purpose. Once the voucher is redeemed, the value is transferred from the gift voucher wallet to the payer’s wallet on the platform. From there, the booking is processed like any other, without the need for a new payment at the time of redemption.
This setup simplifies the tracking and management of gift voucher balances, but also shows how the wallet system goes beyond just handling pay-ins and payouts. It creates a flexible, circular flow of funds that supports a variety of user experiences, from gifting to booking, all within a single, unified infrastructure.
Optimizing platform performance
Since 2016, CheckYeti's growth has skyrocketed by more than 6,400% as of 2024, with notable results such as:
- Over 600,000 wallets generated to date
- A high payment acceptance rate of 96%.
- A pre-authorization success rate of 71%, making the booking process smoother for users.
”Our mission is to help people discover unforgettable adventures while making it easy for our partner vendors to monetize them. The journey starts with us, and we’re keen on keeping it smooth from the first click to the final payout. Mangopay’s wallet system lets us easily manage payments between customers, providers, and ourselves, helping us deliver a secure, frictionless booking experience and timely payouts for our partners" - Georg Reich, CFO, CheckYeti
What’s more, over the past year, CheckYeti successfully expanded into six markets - Morocco, Turkey, Albania, Iceland, Finland, and Bulgaria - another milestone made possible through a close collaboration with Mangopay.
Why wallets matter more than ever
Booking and hospitality is an area where platform-native wallets are truly needed for embedded experiences. Our latest research Insights into in-app wallets: What platforms must know about user behavior and expectations, reveals that 43% of platform users prefer to pay and get paid via built-in wallets. The appetite for wallet-based experiences is growing, positioning platforms to unlock new opportunities and drive long-term growth through more integrated, flexible infrastructures. Platforms like CheckYeti are well-positioned to stay ahead of the trend.
